Industry Spotlight - Construction

Last week we spoke about the workwear needed for the food processing industry.

This week, we’ll be taking a look at the construction industry to see what workwear is required when on a building site.

In this new series of articles, we’ll be taking a look at the different industries we provide workwear for.

Headwear

The hard-hat helmet is perhaps the most popular piece of clothing that is often attributed to the building site and construction. And for good reason too, it can help protect the worker from falling debris and is an essential (as most things are on this list) to be work on a building site.

In the colder month, helmet liners come in handy to keep your head warm when working in freezing cold conditions.

In some cases, protective glasses or masks may be required to be worn to keep sparks or flames away from the face. Of course, this depends on the site and the job you do.

Ear defenders may be required due to the loud noises of various machinery when working on the job.

Bodywear

Bodywear is a little bit more relaxed, you’ll need to wear hi-viz clothing, of course, to keep you and others safe. Furthermore, if you didn’t wear a hi-viz jacket, you may not be recognised as part of the team, so it almost acts as a uniform when on the site.

Other clothing such as bodywarmers, thermal base layers and gloves can go to great lengths in keeping you warm and comfortable when working on the job.

Gloves may be required in some cases, but it’s always good to have a pair to hand or in your rucksack.

Legwear

A pair of jeans probably won’t cut it here, instead, you want to opt-in for some heavy-duty, cargo work trousers that have many pockets, zips and holders to keep tools and personal belongings safe.

As with your body, base layers can help keep your legs warm in the coldest of weather conditions.

And you may be required to wear hi-viz trousers so that you’re easy to see and gives you more visibility to workers operating machinery or vehicles.

Footwear

Safety boots are your best bet here to provide comfort, grip and protection. Trainers are not advised!

And a good pair of heavy-duty, thermal socks can add extra heat and comfort in Winter.
