Supporting Inspirational Women From The STEM Build in Malawi

27 March 2019

This year 20 women from the world of engineering and 2 women from nursing and business teamed up and headed on an expedition to Malawi. Over the past couple of months, they have been working closely to design a STEM classroom at the Rainbow Hope School in the Mangochi District, Malawi.

Within the United Kingdom, we have been developing educational schools and outlets for many years to the standard they are today. As standard, children within the UK are able to access education in every town and city, with further education outlets also available. However, for other countries across the globe, like Malawi, this educational infrastructure isn’t as widely available for all children.

Similar to other countries, Malawi is amongst one of the least developed countries on the planet, with over 53 per cent of the population living below the poverty line.

Sponsored By Granite Workwear

Understanding the vital importance of this build and wanting to support the young ladies from the industry, the team here at Granite Workwear wanted to sponsor the team in Malawi.

Although the ladies are already united through their vision for a better future, we also sent them over personalised high-vis jackets, to help keep them safe during the build and moreover to unite them as a team.

The team will be supporting the final construction in May 2019 and will also be working with students, parents and teachers to share skills and inspire the next generation of young people in the world of STEM careers.
