Following on from our weekly article series where we showcase all the products we feature in certain industry sectors, this week we’re looking at the forestry industry.

Arguably one of the most unsafe industries alongside construction, jobs in forestry requires a multitude of PPE. Harnesses and safety lines, anti-chainsaw protective trousers, hard-hats and ear defenders are all required when carrying out forestry work.

In this article, we’ll be looking at the clothing required when working in the forestry industry.

Headwear

Starting off with headwear and hard-hats should be required when working in forestry. Tall and sometimes heavy trees and pieces of wood may fall down and even the most skilled forestry worker may not be able to predict which way a tree will ultimately come crashing down to the ground.

So it’s better to be safe than sorry and to wear a hard-hat to protect you from falling trees and debris.

In some cases protective glasses may need to be worn, especially if you’re using a chainsaw to chop the tree into smaller pieces, to stop sawdust from getting in your eyes.

With that being said, wearing protective face coverings to help filter out sawdust and other harmful toxins from reaching your body is also a good idea.

And due to the loud noises from heavy machinery and equipment, ear defenders should also be considered.

Bodywear

When working in forestry, bodywear really depends on the season you’re working in.

During the summer months, you may get away with wearing a lightweight t-shirt and a high-viz vest for maximum visibility.

But in the colder, Winter season, you may want to layer up and wear bodywarmers, thermal wear and sweatshirts to keep you warm on the job.

High-viz vests should be worn especially when working around machinery and equipment for maximum visibility of the workers and staff.

Legwear

When choosing legwear you want to choose trousers that are strong, durable and offer flexibility and functionality.

Being restricted by clothing can prevent you from doing your work, so it’s important to choose the right type of clothing and legwear to maintain flexibility when working on the job.

High-viz trousers can be worn for maximum visibility which is always a good thing.

And in the colder winter months, you may want to wear thermal legwear to help keep you warm.

Here is where you don’t want to skimp on price.
