As we near the end of our series of articles, highlighting the different industries we stock workwear for, we still have a few more left to promote!

This weeks’ article is all about engineering and looking at what the required workwear is for the industry.

However, as we know, engineering is a broad term with many different professions within it. Whether that’s electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering or even environmental engineering.

Nevertheless, from a broad standpoint, we’ll take a look at the most common pieces of workwear for this engineering industry.

Headwear

The majority of engineers will be office based, working on a computer or laptop as part of their day job. They may be on the road, attending conferences and meetings therefore in terms of headwear on a daily basis, there isn’t any requirement.

With that being said, when an engineer visits the construction site for projects they’re involved in, they may then be required to wear a hard hat, protective glasses, ear defenders and in some cases a face mask.

Bodywear

Again, due to the fact that most engineers are in the corporate setting, a formal shirt or a polo sweater may be worn to dress formally for meetings and general office settings.

This would change of course when visiting projects on-site, where a high-viz jacket may be required for full visibility of visitors on site.

Legwear

A smart pair of formal work trousers should be worn or something similar to fall in line with the dress policy of the office. That goes for both male and female workers.

Footwear

Any type of comfortable, formal dress shoes is fine. However ladies, if you know you’re going to be on a construction site for the day you may want to swap out the heels for comfortable flat shoes as you’ll be on your feet for most of the day, potentially climbing stairs and walking over uneven surfaces.
