Working on an assembly line can be physically demanding and exhausting, wearing the correct safety equipment and workwear will help to keep you safe and may even help with comfort levels when working.

There are many dangers and hazards when working on an assembly line, whether that’s in the packaging industry, automotive industry or even food production industry.

Clothing can get caught in machinery and if you don’t have tear-away clothing, it may lead to physical danger.

In this article, we take a look at what workwear is required in the assembly industry.

Headwear

In most cases, long hair will be required to be tied back and either a hat or a hair net to be worn, especially when working on a production line.

As there is a lot of machinery that is constantly working, earplugs or defenders will be needed to protect hearing levels.

Safety glasses may also be required to prevent any debris or harmful chemicals/gasses from going into the eyes.

Bodywear

Lightly coloured clothing should be considered here to remain seen by colleagues and those operating heavy machinery.

Especially in the medical and food sector, white should be worn.

In some cases, high-viz clothing may be required for extra visibility, this may be true for night shifts to help with visibility.

Thermal clothing will also help you keep warm whilst on the job.

But here as well as legwear is where tear-away clothing is vital to prevent any serious injuries from occurring.

Legwear

In some cases, overalls may be a good option for working on an assembly line.

High-viz clothing may also be a good option for those who want extra visibility or if it’s a required piece of workwear for your job.

Again, thermal legwear can help keep your legs warm when on the job, especially if you’re working in a cold factory where temperatures must remain at a significant level. This is common in the food production industry.

Tear-away clothing again is a good option here to prevent any serious injuries from happening.

Footwear

A strong pair of workwear shoes or boots are a good option and if you can find a pair with a steel toe-cap that’s even better as it can help not only keep your feet comfortable but also safe from any falling debris or accidental drops.

And with most assembly lines being on your feet all day, you need to do whatever you can to protect your feet and look after them.

A good pair of socks will finish off the outfit and help keep your feet comfortable and safe when being stood upon them all day.
